A dodger for a yacht with lock-line roof on a stainless frame with link sheet and full cat-proof mesh enclosure. Sailing vision is important, as was winch clearance and entry into the cockpit from both the aft and sides.
The owner wanted the center cockpit enclosed. Limiting factors were a gallows in the middle of the area, a mizzen mast through the aft bimini area, a traveler against the base of the dodger window, among other impediments.
We built a bimini, dodger, connector and enclosure with Framework for a 2015 Catalina 445. The project used a combination of Strataglass and Makrolon, with Sunbrella fabric throughout. The customers needed a complete canvas outfit including framework, bimini, dodger, connector, enclosure, strapless bimini struts and solar panel frames.
The client wanted a wider dodger for more winch clearance, as well as longer to create better coverage for the companionway and protection from green water. The biminineeded to be longer for more shade while opening up access into the cockpit, and shortening the link sheet as it is a suspended cover. We had to retain the existing mounting points so as not to add any more holes to the boat.
My clients will be using this boat in different locations and storing the boat at different marinas around Australia and New Zealand. Their goal was to create covers that enhanced the look but most of all didn’t restrict the sail ability of the boat in those different locations, and when away from the boat it is totally secure and fully protecting their investment.
The owner of this Jenneau 53 yacht wanted a flowing dodger and bimini combination to color match the gel coat with good winch clearance and access to the helm around the side of the bimini.

Beneteau fit a fiberglass targa tower to the cabin top which we use to mount tracks for zips to attach all covers. The track is heated to the shape of the deck and targa, using VHB tape and 4-gauge screws; YKK zips are sewn to Keder insert and become the covers’ anchor points.
This dodger and bimini are connected by a joiner panel and attachments for an enclosure screen. An additional crew dodger features covers for all clear screens and a cover for a fore deck tender.
This is a custom California dodger with curved aft stanchions, hand-stitched leather grab rail, four D-rings in the top, and a Top Gun chafe guard around the outside.
